Random Recipe Filing

For those of you who don't know...I'm a bit anal, OCD, picky. Call it what you want. It is a sickness and it keeps my mind running like crazy and causes me many a panic attack!

For "birthdays" (my mom's side of the family gets together in the summer and celebrates everyone's birthday for the year) I was given a super cute recipe holder from my cousin. It is a fabulous gift for 3 main reasons.
1. I love recipes!
2. I love organizing!
3. It's colorful and monogrammed!

Yesterday I began organizing some of my recipes. When I opened my new box I read the following headings on the dividers - Appetizers, Soups/Salads, Main Dishes, Meat/Poultry/Seafood, Vegetables, Baked Goods, Desserts, and Beverages.

Recipe Number One - Chicken Tortilla Soup

This is easy. I file it under Soups/Salads.

Recipe Number Two - Corn Pudding

Hey. I've got the hang of this. This should take no time. I file it under Vegetables.

Recipe Number Three - French Toast Souffle'

Wait. Is this a main dish? Is this a Baked Good? I'll come back to this one.

Recipe Number Four - Chicken and Rice Casserole

(Heart starting to race a bit) What? Is this considered a main dish? Baked Good? Meat/Poultry/Seafood? What is the difference between main dish and filing it under meat/poultry/seafood? DAVE! DAVE! (I explain my predicament). His reply? It's not that big of a deal...file it where I want. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Not the answer for an OCDer!

And so began and ended my recipe filing. I got so frustrated with the whole thing that I just stopped! WHY? Why does it have to be that big of a deal? I'm a crazy (ok, don't answer that)?? I know there has to be someone else out there who feels my pain!

So I ask you, Faithful Followers, where would you file the following:
1- Macaroni and Cheese (why can't they just have a tab that reads Side Dishes?!)
2- Pineapple Sheet Cake (baked good or a dessert?)

Ok, I'll stop obsessing...but seriously, what are your thoughts?!

Pray for Stellan

As you may remember I did a post awhile back about Stellan. His story is one that touched my heart. I sadly write that he is not doing well. Please pray for him, his family, and his doctors. They are making some major decisions right now. Visit MckMama's website for more. Pin It

Backyard Makeover

For the past 2 days Dave and I have been working on the backyard. As you may recall we (my Dad and Dave) laid sod down about 3 years ago, but it never took. The soil is just terrible. I wanted to do something to make it a little more appealing back there. So with the help of Ang and her knowledge of plants, landscaping, etc. we decided to move forward with our makeover.

As you can see there wasn't much exciting going on. We had laid down some stepping stones a few summers ago, but that was about it.

The first thing I did was add a little color to the space. I had seen this idea a while back in one of my DIY magazines and had been dying to try it!

How cute is that?!

Next the major work began. We laid down black landscaping paper and dug holes for all the flowers and plants.

We added some pinestraw,

turned the stepping stones in to a patio for the grill,

painted Winston's steps (totally Dave's doing),

updated the porch with a new rug,

bought some patio furniture and a big orange umbrella,

and

Voila! A whole new backyard!

We are both very pleased with our new and improved space. I still have a few more things I want to do, but for now we are happy!! :)

A Totally Rad Bachelorette Weekend

Last Friday I headed to Charlotte to celebrate Nancy's (known by me as Room) Bachelorette weekend! Dottie was kind enough to let us stay at her dad's gorgeous home in South Charlotte.

Friday night we headed out to dinner at Providence Cafe and then on to Selwyn Pub for a few drinks.

Saturday afternoon was spent shopping at South Park and then dinner at Nikko's Sushi Bar. After dinner we headed back to the house for Room's lingerie shower and then to get ready for a night at The Breakfast Club.

The Breakfast Club is an 80s bar in Charlotte. We all had a blast returning to our 80s roots and dancing the night away to Cyndi Lauper, Pat Benetar, etc. If you love the 80s you must check this place out! (no you don't have to dress up, but it makes the experience so much better!!)

What a totally radical weekend!
Congrats, Room! Only a few more weeks until you say "I Do!" I can't wait!

Foodie Friday Problem

I have experienced a bit of a problem with MckLinky and accidently erased anyone who previously posted their link. Have no fear -- I fixed the problem and it shouldn't happen next time!!! If you don't mind linking your appetizer back that would be great, but if you don't want to...no biggie! Thanks for understanding! Pin It

Some Fun with Food

I follow a few blogs that do these fun posts where they show or write something and then put a link at the bottom for the readers to link to their posts.

HUH? What in the world are you talking about??

For example -- Kelly's Korner does a "Show me Where You live Friday" and MckMamma does a "Not Me Monday."

Get it now?

Anyway, they used a program called, "Mr. Linky." This program has had so many problems that MckMamma and a friend created their own! So now they all use MckLinky! :) I have wanted to do something like this for awhile now, but never could get Mr. Linky to work. Thanks to the highly techno two we have a solution!

I decided to start my own "blog roll" and have a little fun with food! We'll call it "Foodie Fridays!" No, its not Friday, but I'm going to post today because I'm so excited.

Here is how to do it!
-type up your favorite recipe on your blog for whatever course we are talking about that week
-publish your blog
-copy and paste your blog's link onto my page under MckLinky

Hopefully we can get some real good recipes from lots of different people out there! Have FUN and PLEASE PLAY!!!!!

This week: The Appetizer
(I know I'm early, but I'll go ahead and get it going so we can get the hang of it)

Mexican Dip
-2 cans refried beans
-1 80z. container of sour cream
-1 package of taco seasoning
-shredded lettuce, tomatoes, cheese

1. Spread the beans on the bottom of a dish
2. Mix sour cream and taco seasoning
3. Pour the sour cream mixture on top of the beans
4. Layer the lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese

EASY!!!!

Now your turn -- you should see right below this where it says "You are next" -- click there and enter your blog post with this weeks course - The Appetizer

The 4th!

Another 4th of July has come and gone. It is hard to believe how fast 2009 is flying by!

Dave and I didn't have anything planned this year, so we decided on Friday, July the 3rd to head to Ft. Jackson to watch the fireworks. It was free and we didn't have anything else going on.

Photo Sharing - Video Sharing - Photo Printing

On the 4th I headed to The Peach Festival with Kim and her mom. I had never been before -- can you believe it?!

A quick shot of the "action"

A peach sizzle or something like that. It was VERY SWEET!

That evening we headed to the lake. There was plenty of food and another fireworks display compliments of Dave and Snapper.

This was the only good picture I could capture. Fireworks are hard to take pictures of!

Snapper and Laurel had a new baby girl. Her name is Jenna and she is 3 weeks old. I spent most of the night holding her! The fireworks didn't even phase her!

Just trying out the camera in different modes

Laurel and Snapper's first born, Isabella.

Daddy enjoying the food

I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe 4th!
