Stellan

Prayers for Stellan
I read a lot of blogs. Most of you know that. I read a lot of blogs about sick babies for some reason. Once again a lot of you know that. Weird, I know! Stellan's mom's blog is one I read. I'm not asking you to take the time to read it. If you do, that is great. I'm just asking that you take 1 minute out of your day and pray for Stellan. He is currently at Boston's Children Hospital (the McKs are from Minnesota) awaiting to undergo a MAJOR heart surgery on Tuesday. This baby wasn't even suppose to be born, but he was. I don't know this family, but their story has touched me and I check in every day (I know that might be a bit odd for some of you). This little guy with the piercing blue eyes needs our prays. He is fighter. Please take a minute, if you choose, to say whatever kind of pray you wish for Stellan and his family. I know I am.

What a weekend...

As you read the title you may think I had a great weekend. Did something fun. Went somewhere. Unfortunately none of the above apply. This weekend I've been in bed, sick. Here's the rundown:

Friday:
Felt FINE all day. I got home and layed on the couch watching Oprah. I was a little cold and made the comment to Dave that I wanted him to turn the heat on, but knew that wouldn't fly. I'm usually cold, so I didn't think much of it.
I got off the couch and met Ang for dinner. We had Mexican. I didn't eat much, but didn't think anything of it. I just figured I was still full from the snack of pasta salad I had eaten earlier. After dinner we went back to her house to make some of our famous soon to be famous button magnets. We talked for a few hours, made magnets, and hung out. All of a sudden I got VERY cold -- chill bumps cold. Once again I didn't think much of it. However, when I left Ang's house things took a turn for the worse. At this point I was FREEZING. I'm talking teeth chattering cold. I had to pull over from driving to get my jacket out of the back seat. I bundled myself up, cranked up the heat, and made it home. Once I got home I got ready for bed. I decided to take my temperature just to make sure nothing was going on. 101.9. I was shocked! What?? How could this be? The thermometer must be broken. I'll take it again. 101.9 still. Great. 2 Advil, a Claritin, and bed.

Saturday:
I wake up and I'm definitely not feeling well. Temperature - 102.1. UGH! I decided I should probably head to the doctor. Thank goodness my practice has weekend hours. I get there and have to wait for about 30 mins. Once I get back the nurse takes my temp and it is now 103.1 -- What is going on here???? The doctor comes in looks at my throat and says my tonsils are covered in white spots and he's going to run a strep test. My throat was hurting a bit, but nothing like it's hurt when I had strep in the past. Anyway who am I am question the doctor? Back I went for the strep test then back for some more waiting. The doctor finally comes back to tell me that the test was negative for strep, but he couldn't believe it. He went ahead and gave me an antibiotic (thank god!) and said he thought it was tonsilitis. It was probably the beginning of strep, but I caught it early on. I proceeded to checkout. When it was finally my turn I signed the bill and then felt really bad. I got really hot and started seeing black spots. I thought I was going to pass out and throw up so I asked the lady if I could sit down. She was VERY unconcerned and said sure. As I sat for a few minutes I could feel myself feeling more and more like I was going to throw up. Finally it happened. I was save you from the details, but just know I got sick right there on the floor. The lady behind the desk was still VERY unconcerned with what was going on with me. I asked her for a trash can and she told me there was one behind the desk. Are you kidding me? Do you want me to get up an come get it myself? FINALLY she realized I was sick and brought it to me. She didn't ask it I was ok, go to get someone, nothing. I sat there for a few minutes longer. I finally felt enough strength to get up. I walked up to the waiting room and motioned for Dave to come back with me. I told him what happened. He went to find someone to clean up the floor. I decided I had had enough and was ready to leave. I apologized to the lady at the desk and she replied with, "I guess I'll have to get someone to clean it up..." I told Dave to forget it and lets go. I was so mad. (Mind you this wasn't MY doctor's office, but the office that is open for the weekend hours. My family practice has about 10 different locations) Dave dropped me off at home and got my prescription filled. I spent the rest of the day on the couch, bundled up in blankets, and watching movies. Around 3 my fever finally broke. Unfortunately it came back a few hours later. I had ice cream for dinner then I went to sleep for the night.

Sunday:
I woke up and my temperature was 100.1. Better than 103, but still. I took some Advil and went back to sleep. My fever finally broke and I have been fever free for about 9 hours now. Hallelujah!!! I am praying that I am good to go. My throat is still a bit sore and I have a headache, but as long as I take my Advil I'm ok.

The plan as of now is to get up and go to school in the morning. I don't want to miss. Are all teachers as crazy about that or is it just me? I will let you know what tomorrow brings. Pin It

Oh, Winston!

Today marks the official first day of Spring Break. Instead of sleeping in (which all who know me know that is what I LOVE to do) I got up bright and early to take Winston to the vet. He was due for his yearly wellness exam. The vet is not an experience I dread, but with Winston being so bipolar temperamental, you never know what you are going to get. I'm always cautious.

We arrived and Winston did his business outside before heading in. When we got in to the waiting area I checked him in and clutched his leash very tight -- "temperamental" remember??? We took our seat as far away from any other dogs as we could get. Since it was 8am it wasn't very crowded. However a few seats down from us was a beautiful, BIG Husky.

Oh great. What is Lucifer Winston going to do?

Absolutely NOTHING! That's right. You read that correctly -- NOTHING. He layed down right next to me. He was shaking a bit, but he didn't even bark!

A few minutes later we were called back. Winston was not excited about that at all. He tried to pull towards the door to make a break for it, but no such luck! He got on the scale (15 lbs -- I think a diet is in his near future) and we headed back to the exam room. Once again he did absolutely NOTHING. He let the vet tech take his temperature, pick him up, and take him back to have his nails trimmed and blood drawn. When he came back I asked how he did. You see I heard a lot of other dogs whining, barking, etc. and I was SURE one of those was Winston. Every day of my life he barks or whines or tries to attack. I was ready to give my full apologies and explain that he was a rescue dog, etc.

He did great. He didn't make a sound.

Are you kidding me???

Seriously
she reassured me.

Wow.

The doctor came in a few minutes later. She was able to give him his vaccines, look in his mouth, and check him all over. I was so proud of little Winston!

Before I left I asked the doctor THE question - Are there just some dogs who are going to hate other dogs and other people pretty much forever?

Her answer?

Yes.

I figured. Oh well!

I guess I'll just have to take Winston to the vet everyday so he will behave! I think it might be my new favorite place!

If only he could be like he is when he's with me and Dave or the vet when everyone is around...

So no breakthroughs today. But for the time being he is quietly resting. I'm sure once the benadryl wears off he will be back to his normal barking self!

It was nice while it lasted!

iTouch

Ang decided to get rid of her iTouch for one with more GBs and asked if I wanted it. Of course! So, I bought it from her and have been having WAY TOO MUCH FUN! If you are unfamiliar with the iTouch it is just like an iPhone without the phone or camera capabilities. I can add all kinds of cool applications (which I've already done) and get internet anywhere free wi-fi is available! I am so excited about this thing!! Can you tell???
