Weekend Trip to Virginia

The day after Christmas we headed up to Fairfax, Virginia for Dave's grandparents' 61st wedding anniversary. On Saturday we headed in to D.C. for the day.

We started the morning with a trip to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. It was fun, but freaked me out just a little! I had been to the one in Hollywood, but it was a long time ago. Dave, however, had a FABULOUS time! Can you tell???

Abe Lincoln

Muhammad Ali

Malcolm X

Martin Luther King

Can't remember this guy's name, but he is "interrogating" Dave...

The Kennedy's

Hey, look who we ran in to! Barack the Vote!

We all know how much I LOVE me some George Clooney, but I was still a little freaked out to get too close...
Dave being oh so original and grabbing J.Lo's "assets."

Julia

Tiger Woods...
like I said, Dave had a FABULOUS time!

After the wax museum we headed over to the new International Spy Museum. We weren't allowed to take pictures there, but it was fun!

Following the spy museum we headed to lunch at Matchbox which was a vintage pizza bistro in the heart of Chinatown. Ironic, huh? Some of the best pizza found in Chinatown! If you're ever in D.C. check it out. It was yummy and I recommend the Chicken Pesto Pizza!!

Before it was time to head out of the city we stopped by The White House. It was amazing how much preparation is going on/has gone on for the Inauguration. You can see stands being built all around. It will definitely be a monumental event!

Saturday night we celebrated Dave's grandparents' 61st anniversary with a delicious meal prepared by Dave's Aunt Darnell. Sunday afternoon we headed back to L-town! It was a nice trip, but it's always good to be home!!

Christmas

Christmas Eve was spent at our place with appetizers and Sue Sue and Winston opening gifts.

Winston was worn out by all the excitement!

Christmas morning was spent seeing what Santa left at Mom's house!

Christmas Day was spent in Orangeburg with Mom's family.

Christmas Night was spent at my Dad's house. This was the only picture I managed to take that night. Yes, that is his Christmas tree...

and their are no words to describe it! :)

I hope everyone had a Very Merry Christmas!

Christmas Time is Here Again!

Can you believe tomorrow is December 1st? Time sure does fly! I love decorating for Christmas. It makes me happy! Today Me, Dave, Kim, Mike, Holly, and Grady went out to get our Christmas trees. Since we all live in Lexington now we had planned to go out to Harmon's to look for trees, drink cider, and be Christmasy (who knows how to spell that pretend word)! However, the rain changed our plans and we decided to go down the road to a place that had trees under a tent! We were all successful in our tree hunting and I can't wait to see everyone's trees and decorations! Here is what The DeMasters have so far...

The process begins...

The finished product!
I am very happy with it even though we had to restring the lights 3 times!!!

My mom bought me this tree for Halloween. It only comes with a Halloween set to go on it so I decided to hang my "Twelve Days of Christmas" ornaments on it. I've been trying to get these ornaments for years now, but every time I go to buy them they are out. I finally got them earlier this fall!!!!

The kitchen decor

I am super excited about my cinnamon stick holders! I saw the idea on a blog and decided to make it my own. I think they turned out great!

Our front door wreath.
I'm not done yet...it needs a bow or something, but I had to get it up. Any ideas??

I hope all of you are enjoying decorating your house for Christmas! Before you know it will be 2009! Merry Early Christmas! Pin It

I'm SO BEHIND!!!

Ok, so I realize I've been slack in my blogging lately. I have no excuses, but my computer has been running ridiculously slowly lately. It is SO ANNOYING! Anyway, I finally got around to downloading some photos. Here is a brief update on what has been going on recently (don't get too excited--it's not much)!

I celebrated my 27th birthday this month and all I wanted was a cookie cake from The Nestle Tollhouse Cafe. Sad, huh?? There used to be one in Lexington, but now the only one in town is at The Village at Sandhill. My FABULOUS husband surprised me with this cookie cake and I couldn't have been more excited!

If you know me you know I LOVE cake and cupcakes! Holly and Kim surprised me with cupcakes for my birthday! I was so happy and check out the "K" they made out of them! Thanks, girls!

Emma and Jehu also celebrated a birthday this month! They turned 4 and I was there for their festive monkey party!
One of my parents brought in the cutest monkey cupcakes when their little girl was "Top Banana." I showed Ang a picture of them and we just HAD to make them!
How cute are these???

Emma and Jehu attempting to blow out their candles -- I love Jehu's face here!
I hope this short update makes up for me being a slacker! I'm off to get a Christmas tree -- pictures to follow -- I PROMISE!!!!!!

Ok all you decorating/crafting fools out there...

Can I paint a plain ol' silver lamp? And if so what is your vote for the color? These are going to be in my den where I have a khaki couch. I plan to get some new bright pillows for the couch as well!
(Holly you've definitely inspired me to put some color in my life!) Anyway, tips on painting the lamp would be much appreciated!!! Pin It

Happy Birthday!

What is it about birthdays that I love so much? When I was little it was the excitement of the presents and the birthday party that was planned. As I entered in to the world of high school it was the excitement of finally being able to drive, vote, and knowing with each birthday I was getting closer to graduation.
Now, as an adult, what do I love about birthdays? Just feeling loved! :)

It's the...
-early morning text from my Daddy wishing me a Happy Birthday
-my Mom calling at the exact time I was born (6:45 am)
-having a husband to spend my birthday with
-the homemade apple crisp at school, cookie cake from Dave, and a homemade birthday cake from my mom
-the surprise gifts from friends that make you feel good
-cards in the mail
-a text from a sweet friend who has a miracle baby and should be thinking about so much more than the fact that its my birthday
-messages left on my voicemail
-facebook messages galore
-getting birthday hugs from my Kindergartners
-hearing Happy Birthday sung in French
-having Happy Birthday sung by a now 6th grader and 2nd grader who I used to babysit
-phone calls from old roommates

These are things that make birthdays so special still!

Thank you to everyone who has made me feel so loved today. I couldn't ask for more! :) Pin It

Picnik

I've been noticing on people's facebook pages that they have been using a program called picnik to edit photos with. Interested in the latest technology as usual, I decided to check it out. Look at all the fun I had! (Click on the picture to get the full effect of the fun) :)

Happy Halloween!

This weekend I began working on my pumpkin project! I have been wanting to do this for a few weeks now, but with the wedding and honeymoon I haven't had any time to work on my "crafting." This weekend was the perfect time for it! I know Halloween is THIS Friday, but better late than never, right?! I thought they turned out super cute!

Hmmm...

It's time to start those ever so fun thank you notes for all our wedding presents! I can hardly contain my excitement...yeh, right! I honestly think about it every day. I think today is the day I'm going to sit down and begin. Then something more alluring grabs my attention and another day of writing thank you notes is lost. Oh well. What I wouldn't give to stick my thank you notes in the printer and print them out...hmmm not such a bad idea... too bad there is that damn etiquette thing standing in the way!

Also, what do you do if you have 2 presents that you have no idea who they are from? One was even mailed to the house. There has to be a way to see who sent that one, right?! Pin It

Bachelorette!

Friday night Holly and Kim got together to throw me my bachelorette party! We all had a fabulous time!

We started at Kim's with food, drinks, lingerie, and a few games

Then we headed out to dinner at Carolina Ale House in the Vista...

We met some Swedish boys who were more than happy to help me complete my "tasks."

Next up was Wild Wings were I dance with an "englishman." Who knew Columbia was so international??!!

and ended up on stage with the band singing..
Our final destination was Liberty were we danced up a storm! I don't have any good pictures of that, but maybe someone else does?

Thanks, girls for a fabulous night!!! I cannot believe I will be married in 1 week!!!!! :)
